The government of Sao Tome and Principe has launched an international tender for the construction of a deep-water port. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Osvaldo de Abreu (pictured), Santomean Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure.

The work, with a planned depth of 16 meters, is to be built in Fernão Dias, in the Lobata district in the north of the country. The port, which will have a multi-purpose terminal, will initially be able to accommodate ships of up to 30,000 tonnes, a capacity that may be increased in the future.

Through this port, the Santomean authorities plan to "transform Sao Tome and Principe into a platform for the provision of services to the countries of Central and West Africa by serving as a transshipment site for containers and goods from various parts of the country. world to these countries ”.

Note that the proposals scheduled to be submitted before January 20, 2020, must include financing, negotiation of concession contracts as well as the start and completion of construction.
